There are about 350,000 species of plants currently estimated to exist. Although the rapid
destruction of the planets natural rain forests and
ecosystems is lowering this figure.
As of 2004, some 287,655 species had been identified, of which 258,650 are flowering and
18,000 are bryophytes.
Plants are organisms belonging to the kingdom Plantae.
They include familiar organisms such as trees, herbs, grasses and
even green algae. Green plants, sometimes called metaphytes or viridiplantae, obtain most of their energy from sunlight
via a process called photosynthesis.
Plants require red light wavelenghs (660nm), as it contributes to the plant
photosynthesis and blue light wavelenghs (450nm) are indispensable to the morphologically of healthy plant growth.
