Blood Banana (Musa zebrina) Plants

Dwarf Cavendish Banana Musa zebrina (Blood Banana) is native to Indonesia. In containers, plants only reach about 1.2m in height. The Blood Banana is an ornamental plant and it's named so because of the dark red patches on its leaves. According to RHS 1956 Musa zebrina is probably a form of Musa malaccensis which itself Musa acuminata subsp. malaccensis.

Musa zebrina thrive in full sun to partial shade. They require a moist well-drained soil mix(2 parts peat moss to 2 parts loam to 1 part sand or perlite). The plants should be kept moist but not overly wet. During the winter months, water less often. But dont let the soil dry thoroughly.
