An ecosystem is a self-sustaining environment that contains a community of interdependent plants and animals.
It consists of all plants, animals and micro-organisms in an area functioning together with all of the non-living physical
factors of the environment(such as climate and soil).
There are many examples of ecosystems; a pond, rain forest, an estuary, beach, grasslands etc. The boundaries are not fixed in any objective way. In an ecosystem nothing is on its own.
Ultimately everything is interdependent. The sea is a massive ecosystem under great threat from pollution and over use of its
precious resources.
Ecosystems The ecosystem concept has its roots in theoretical concepts regarding the organization and dynamics of natural systems.
